Dordrecht | The Netherlands OMSK/Lotte van den Berg Pleinvrees Dutch spoken, mobile phone needed for the show Op locatie | Open air 60 minutes € nvt Main programme 16 (Rond 17.00), 17 (Rond 17.00), 18 (Rond 17.00) august Lonely street protest

No décor, no lighting plan, no sound amplification, no tiered seating. The city itself is the platform for this socio-critical performance by stage director Lotte van der Berg. Over the past few years she has gained fame with multidisciplinary projects in public space, largely inspired by occurrences in everyday life. Agoraphobia (in Dutch: Pleinvrees) is a reaction to the dismantling of the social system and communal structures, and to the need of the individual and the community to speak out about this. As a spectator, you use your own cellphone to follow at a distance a man who appears to be talking to himself – until he directly addresses you. He involves you in his lonely protest, his appeal to society. This exceptional personal encounter is an event in itself; it is a theatre experience that resembles in no way whatsoever what you have seen up to now.

‘Award-winning director Lotte van den Berg (1975) has been making her presence felt in Holland as one of a new generation of artists described as the ‘young Dutch minimalists’.’ Dutchontour.nl
